First Lutheran Church: A Caring Community

Even as we are committed to the transforming power of the Gospel which God so graciously bestows upon us through His Word and Sacraments, so also are we deeply interested in being the beacons of a living faith that reaches out with God's help into the community to serve and love our neighbor.

Church Services Resumed With Safety Precautions

Services Resumed on May 31st, 2020!

We will resume services at both churches at the normal times: 9am at St. Paul and 10:30am at First Lutheran.

For the time being, we ask for your assistance in observing the following precautions:

  • Please sit in family groups at least six feet apart from others.
  • We will not pass the offering plate during the service. Instead, it will be located at the back of the church.
  • Pastor will not be shaking hands before or after the service.
  • For the first couple weeks, there will be no coffee hour or Bible study before or after church. (We will reassess this after a week or two.)

Every reasonable effort will be made to offer Holy Communion in the safest way possible. This includes the following:

  • The assistant who prepares communion will wear gloves.
  • Pastor will thoroughly wash his hands immediately before the service.
  • Please maintain adequate spacing between family groups at the communion rail.
  • The purificator that is used to wipe the rim of the chalice will be soaked in 180-proof grain alcohol before the service. (This is likely a redundant measure, since the alcoholic content of the wine and the metal of the chalice already kill nearly all germs.)
  • When you use the chalice, please touch only the bottom of the chalice (rather than the side) to help guide it to your mouth.
  • If you use an individual cup, please be very careful to avoid touching the other cups.

If you are comfortable with these measures, please come forward to the rail when directed by the ushers. Otherwise, you are free to remain in your pew.

Remember, there is no guarantee in Scripture that going to church will be 100% safe. However, there is likely to be less risk than going to the grocery store or Home Depot.

Live Stream
For those who are not yet ready to return to church, we will continue to stream the service from First Lutheran through the month of June. Note that the broadcasts will start at 10:30 rather than 10am. The bulletins will continue to be made available on our website:

"We want to express to you how much we appreciated worshipping with you on August 26. We were overjoyed with the message and thoroughly enjoyed the service. The music your organist (and pianist) played was beautiful.

The friendliness of the congregation was wonderful. We did not expect to be greeted with such warmth and Christian love... "
